The 2009 Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise doesn't officially start until Friday night, but earlier ths Tuesday evening there were thousands of people perched in lawn chairs, sitting on the grass or strolling around strip shopping center parking lots ogling at the first trickle of what will become the world's largest temporary collection of classic American automobiles. Over 40,000 pimped-to-perfection cars to be viewed by more than a million people. And it's all happening about a mile or so from my mom's house in Huntington Woods, MI a paragon of 1960's suburbia.
An annual event, the Dream Cruise celebrates the twin American notions of Freedom: Cars and Cruising.
Woodward Avenue is a main road running north out of Detroit into the lush suburban sprawl that surrounds the Motor City.
Wicked cool-assed cars with fins, torpedoes, sexy and muscular lines with candy-colored paint-jobs and chrome-plated filigree. It is so fucking cool. Look:
